Ted Amato

Ted" Amato

Dr. "Ted" Amato is professor of economics in the Belk College of Business at UNC Charlotte. He received his BA from Lenoir-Rhyne College and his MA from UNC Greensboro. He received his PhD from the University of South Carolina. Ted has been part of the faculty at UNC Charlotte since 1980. Dr. Amato is married to Dr. Christie H. Amato who is professor of Marketing in the Belk College of Business. She has been teaching at the University since 1978.

He is a bicycle maniac and enjoys cycling in the UNC Charlotte area on all the trails and he is an avid college football fan. Dr. Amato reads fiction and alternate history books. His favorite authors are Harry Turtledove and John Grisham. He is a country music fan and collects red wine. He loves to write about industrial organization and is published in the "Review of Industrial Organization."

His favorite class to teach is the Introduction to Economics. He loves to teach students whose first experience in an economics class is this intro class.

With a university the size of UNC Charlotte, he feels that the faculty to student interaction is one of the best offered to students. He is in his 26th year at the University and has seen many changes over the years. When he first started teaching enrollment was 7,500 students and now enrollment is over 20,000.

When asked what made a great student Dr. Amato answered, "A student who is responsible for his or her own education and recognizes that education is for a lifetime, not for just four years."
