About Charlotte
What to expect after your move
You already know a lot of things about UNC Charlotte from browsing our website, but you may not know about Charlotte, North Carolina and the region in which the university is located!
One of the first things you will notice after you move here is the many experiences you can have within an easy drive of the university. The State of North Carolina spans from the majestic Great Smoky Mountains in the west to beautiful white sandy beaches along our coast. Just in the Charlotte area alone and within minutes of the university, you can experience the adrenaline rush of NASCAR; world class shopping at Concord Mills Mall; the beauty on display at the Mint Museum of Art; fun theme parks; the delectable delights of our many restaurants; and scintillating night life. Charlotte will stimulate your senses!
Charlotte also takes advantage of the warm climate, southern hospitality, and dynamic urban atmosphere to showcase all manner of major league sports, including the NFL Carolina Panthers, the NBA Charlotte Bobcats, Charlotte Knights baseball and the PGA, making us the number one tourist destination in North Carolina.
Even if professional sports are not your thing, why not check out some of our 15,000 acres of parks or two major lakes for outdoor activities, boating and sailing. Remember that the Smoky Mountains and the Blue Ridge Parkway are only two hours away and the Carolina beaches on the Atlantic Ocean are only three hours away.
Don’t worry if you don’t know anyone in the Queen City. One thing that sets Charlotte apart as the home of the New South is that it is open to new people and ideas, as evidenced by the influx of new citizens. We have grown by an amazing 32% over the past decade, with 80,000 people moving here each year. The citizens of Charlotte truly work together with political and business leaders to ensure the city remains “livable” not just for today, but for future generations. It won't be hard to make new friends and contacts here, either on-campus or within the community!
One other important point, as a national financial center second only to New York City and the home of several Fortune 500 companies, you will not be at a loss for what to do after graduation! We’re a tough combination to beat: a modern friendly campus with a variety of quality academic opportunities in a wonderful, thriving city!
